Welcome
to the Village of Antioch, Illinois. The Village of Antioch is
committed to continuing the high quality of life enjoyed by the
citizens and businesses of Antioch community. Our mission is to
enhance and preserve this quality of life by providing fiscally
sound and responsive services, programs and facilities with the
highest degree of professionalism, integrity and efficiency so that
Antioch continues to be a great place to live and work. Antioch
residents can reach both Chicago and Milwaukee by way of Interstate
94 and US 41. Also, there is Metra commuter service between Antioch
and Chicago.
I invite you to experience our
hometown atmosphere as you stroll and shop in our beautiful and
quaint downtown. We are also fortunate to have 15 developed parks
inside the village limits. These facilities provide for the
recreational needs of our community. Antioch’s newest park is the
William E. Brook Wetland Sanctuary and Entertainment Center which is
located in our downtown area. This 9-acre area includes an
educational wetland sanctuary with a boardwalk, walking path,
interpretive nature signs, two ponds and the entertainment center.
The Village of Antioch’s "It's Thursday" concerts are held at the
entertainment center and the park area is also the location for
Antioch’s “Taste of Summer”, carnivals, craft fairs and special
events throughout the year. These events are sponsored by the
Village of Antioch, Antioch Chamber of Commerce and Industry and
other organizations of our community.
One of the most scenic sights in Lake
County is the Hiram Buttrick Sawmill. The authentic reproduction was
built in 1976 as a Bicentennial project. The adjacent arboretum is a
perfect place to hold a picnic or wedding. Tours can be arranged
through the Village of Antioch’s Park and Recreation Department.
If you are interested in Antioch’s
history, make sure to visit the Lakes Region Historical Society
located in the 1892 Antioch Grade School building at Main Street and
Depot Street. For more information, call the Lakes Region Historical
Society at 847-395-7337 or stop by the Antioch Village Hall for a
free brochure.
A second museum in town is the
Pickard China Museum and outlet store. Pickard is one of the finest
china companies in the United States. Customers have included
Presidents, Vice-Presidents and the State Department of the United
States. The Museum and outlet store is located at 782 Pickard
Avenue.
Please take the time to browse
through our website and see what we have to offer. If you have any

The Fire Department Needs Your Help!
The Fire Department wants
to remind everyone that snow-covered fire hydrants, blocked access
routes, and covered address markings will slow down not only the
department's response, but also our ability to provide the necessary
emergency service. There is something that you can do to help.
Everyone in the community, residents, business
owners, and snow removal crews can assist the Fire Department by
clearing away the fire hydrants, and keeping an area approximately
four feet around the hydrant clear. Furthermore, when
possible, keep the sidewalks, driveways, and entrances to a business
or residence clear. The snow removal companies can help by
making sure they are not placing the plowed snow in any of the
above-mentioned areas, which would create the hazards we are trying
to avoid. The recent snowstorms combined with little or no
snow melting has led to a situation where the snow on the ground has
passed the height of a hydrant.
In this situation, the clearing of hydrants
becomes crucial; and by taking the extra effort, we may all be
preventing a tragedy. The Fire Department wants to remind everyone that shoveling snow can
be a very labor-intensive process, and anyone who may doubt his or
her physical condition should take it slow and get someone to help
you. Anyone needing
further information is asked to please contact the Fire Department.
Snow Removal Ordinance Passed
The Village Board of Trustees passed an Ordinance on Monday,
October 20, 2008 which specifies the persons required to remove
snow. The owners, occupants, or lessees of lots which abut a public
sidewalk are required to clear snow after two inches has
accumulated. Additionally, the owner is required to clear off
accumulations of ice, sleet, or freezing rain. The responsible
person is required to maintain the sidewalk in a reasonably clear
condition.
Area Required to be Cleared
The responsible person is required to clear the lesser of 72
inches or the full width of the sidewalk. Additionally, owners most
closely abutting sidewalk ramps are required to clear the ramps.
Clearance should occur within 24 hours after the cessation of an
event that deposits at least two inches of snow. Click on the shovel
below to view the ordinance.

Christmas Trees on Wednesday, January 13, 2010. Trees should
be curbside, and clear of any debris (tinsel, ornaments, bags, etc.)
and less than 6 feet in length.

be picked up as a part of your regular garbage pickup. |
