 May Happenings

Thank you!!!  A big Thank you to all those who helped make our 2005 Arbor Day Event a success.  This annual event has helped us achieve our Tree City USA Award for 13 straight years!  Trees, shrubs and flowers were planted at the Hiram Buttrick Saw Mill on Saturday, April 30th.  Members of the Antioch Upper Grade School NJHS, Park Board Members, members of our Public Works Dept. including Tom Dvorak and Ron Horton, John Ploss, Village and Township Officials and various Scout Groups helped “spruce up” the grounds at this park.  The Arbor Day Committee gave away 800 seedlings to area residents.  Thank you to Big Bites, Domino’s Pizza and Baskin Robbins/Dunkin Donuts for donating breakfast and lunch to all our volunteers!

Another Big THANK YOU Murphy Excavating for donating the equipment and manpower to replace the rock on the banks of the pond at the Saw Mill.  It looks beautiful!  Also Thank you to Body Craft Inc. for donating the materials and labor to bring our Lion Head Drinking Fountain at Centennial Park “back to life” after being vandalized late last year.  Their donation totaled $550 dollars.  Please remember to keep an eye on our parks and report any vandalism immediately to the non-emergency police number at 847-395-8585.

Best wishes to our outgoing Mayor, Taso Maravelas and to the positive changes he made to our Village during his four years.  Congratulations to Mayor elect Dorothy Larson, who will be sworn in at the May 2nd Village Board Meeting held at Senior Center at 7:30 p.m.

REQUEST FOR PICTURES OF

HILLSIDE BRIDGE

In June of 2000 the Village experienced heavy rains that lead to major flooding throughout the Village.  Specifically the bridge on Hillside was impacted and completely flooded over.  As a result of the flooding the bridge sustained damage, which may be covered by a State Grant.  In order to apply for the grant, the Village needs to provide pictures of the bridge flooded by the water in Sequoit Creek.  If you took pictures of the bridge or know anyone that did, please contact Director of Emergency Management Lee Shannon at (847) 395-9462.

WATER AND SEWER BILLING

With last year’s change in water and sewer rates and all of the new residents moving into the Village, the Water Department wanted to provide an overview on water and sewer rates and billing frequency.

Water and Sewer Rate:  The water rate for all residents is $1.25 per 1,000 gallons with a minimum flat rate of $10.00.  The sewer rate for residents on the West side of Deep Lake Road is a minimum flat rate of $22.00 charged for up to 4,000 gallons and $2.50 for every 1,000 gallons thereafter.  The sewer rate for residents on the East side of Deep Lake Road is a minimum flat rate of $12.00 and $3.10 per 1,000 gallons thereafter.  This rate is different than other residents in Antioch, because the sewage goes to the Lake County Treatment plant.

May 14            Libertyville - Commonwealth Edison facility 1500 Franklin Boulevard

May 21            Lake Zurich – Annex Building (formerly old Middle School North) 100 Church Street (north of Hwy. 22 where Midlothian Road becomes Church Street)

A variety of common household materials can be brought to a HCW collection day, including: oil-based paints, used motor oil, solvents, paint remover,         antifreeze, aerosol products, metal polishes, insecticides, old gasoline, hobby chemicals, pool chemicals, weed killer, fluorescent bulbs, household cleaners, household batteries, mercury (including thermometers and thermostats)

Business, institutional and commercial wastes, explosives (such as fireworks and ammunition), propane tanks, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, agricultural chemicals, medical wastes, and Latex paint will not be accepted at any of the agency’s HCW events.  Tires and lead acid batteries (auto and boat batteries) are also not accepted at these collections.  These items can be recycled at any retail outlet that sells them.

To help residents dispose of Latex paint, SWALCO provides bags of crushed corncobs at our Public Works Dept.  Crushed corncobs are very absorbent, and can dry out a can of paint in as little as 30 minutes.  After equal parts of paint and crushed corncobs are mixed together and allowed to dry, the cans of paint can be disposed of with the rest of the resident’s trash.
