Camp Crayon webpage: https://www.antioch.il.gov/departments/parks/camp-crayon/ I would like to wish my friend and Village Board Trustee Mary Pedersen a very Happy Birthday! We helped Trustee Pedersen celebrate her birthday at our village board meeting this past Wednesday. Thank you to everyone who helped us sing her Happy Birthday and share cupcakes. Mary, thank you for all that you do for our community. I hope you had a great birthday! Also at our last Village Board meeting, we heard from several residents who came out to thank the Antioch Public Works Department for their great work during the last round of snow. Not only did they do a great job clearing the roadways, but our Public Works Department put in a lot of effort to make sure the sidewalks downtown were in good shape for the 500+ people who were downtown for last Saturday’s Antioch Wine Walk. Great job, PW! The Antioch Chamber of Commerce Comedy Night is a week away! The Chamber has partnered with the Antioch Junior Women’s Club for the annual Comedy Night and silent auction, which will be held next Saturday, February 3rd at Dockers North (Note – this is an updated location). The event will raise funds for Open Arms Food Pantry, Save-A-Pet, Midwest Veteran’s Closet, AAHAA-Antioch Area Healthcare Accessibility Alliance, A Safe Place, Antioch Junior Woman’s Club, and the Antioch Chamber of Commerce. Visit the Chamber’s website for more information: https://cm.antiochchamber.org/events/details/comedy-night-dinner-with-stand-up-comedian-2-3-24-8040 Finally, I hope can join me in extending condolences and prayers to former Village Trustee Mary Dominiak. Mary’s mother Lois passed away earlier this week. Her funeral was earlier today. I hope you have a great weekend, Antioch! Scott J. Happy Friday, Antioch! The first Village of Antioch Wine Walk of 2024 is tomorrow! We’ve worked at increasing the amount of Wine Walk participants that we’re able to handle. This means that there are more tickets available for sale. I’m told that as of this afternoon, there are still tickets available. Tickets are $45 per person and include roughly 30 stops with over 50 types of wine. So far, over 550 tickets have been sold! Not only is this a fun event, but it’s also exciting to see the participating shops and restaurants full of people enjoying our town and supporting the local economy. Thank you to all the businesses that are helping to make this a success! To purchase tickets, visit: https://secure.rec1.com/IL/village-of-antioch/catalog/index/50a643b5eaeb74a176c021e092fc9413?filter=c2VhcmNoPXdpbmU= Last weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the grand opening ribbon-cutting for the new Antioch Traveling Closet NFP location. Congratulations Lisa Fisher and the ATC team! Their new location is in the Depot Plaza, 311 Depot Street (near the train station). All moved into the new location, they’re already busy getting ready for their first giveaway event of the year. Tomorrow, the Antioch Traveling Closet will be holding a giveaway of clothing, toiletries, and essential items for families in need, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at their new location. Please note, this event is only for residents of Antioch, Lake Villa, and Lindenhurst (IDs will be required to show residency). Thank you to Lisa Fisher and all her volunteers for everything you do. More information: https://antiochtravelingcloset.org At our last Village Board meeting, we received an update from the Antioch Veterans Memorial committee about their fundraising efforts. The Daily Herald had a great write-up about their update, along with pictures. You can read the story here: https://www.dailyherald.com/20240117/news/fundraising-to-get-underway-for-long-sought-veterans-memorial-in-antioch/ Also, make sure you follow the Antioch Veterans Memorial committee’s Facebook page for more updates. Congratulations Antioch Police Commander Nick Garcia! Commander Garcia recently completed the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command. This program is an internationally renowned intensive 10-week police leadership training program. We’re proud of your accomplishment and grateful for your dedicated service to our community, Commander Garcia! Finally, I had a chance to walk past the village redevelopment project at Main and Orchard earlier this morning. Despite the cold temperatures, progress continues to be made. Once the weather improves, I’ll have more pictures to share. I’m also working with our Village communications team to make a video update to show our progress. Look for something in the coming weeks. I look forward to seeing you downtown for tomorrow’s Wine Walk! Have a great weekend, Antioch! Scott J. Happy Snow Day, Antioch! I think days like this bring out the inner child in all of us. As a kid, there was nothing quite as exciting as an unexpected snow day! I hope that if you have had to go out in this weather, it was for fun. The roads have been a bit rough all day today. I wanted to give a shout-out to our snowplow drivers at the Antioch Public Works Department. Our plow drivers have been out since early this morning making sure our village streets were safe for travel. Thank you, Antioch PW for all that you do! In addition to the Antioch Public Works Department, the men and women of the Antioch Police Department have also been out in force today. Even with rough road conditions, these officers haven’t missed a beat. I am grateful for their dedication to our community. Our village has an outstanding team of dedicated employees. Do you have your Winter Wine Walk tickets yet? We’re only about a week away from the 2024 Winter Wine Walk! I’d suggest getting tickets now before they’re gone. If you don’t have a chance to buy tickets, Star 105.5 will be giving away tickets all this next week on the Star Morning Show with Joe and Tina! The 2024 Winter Wine Walk is next Saturday, January 20th. Tickets are $45 per person. The Wine Walk will have about 30 stops and roughly 50 types of wine to try! To purchase tickets, you can: 1) Call the Antioch Parks Department at 847-395-2160, 2) Email the Antioch Parks Department at parks@antioch.il.gov, 3) Shop online at: https://secure.rec1.com/IL/village-of-antioch/catalog/index/50a643b5eaeb74a176c021e092fc9413?filter=c2VhcmNoPXdpbmU= At our Village Board meeting this past Wednesday, the board re-approved the Final Plat for Phase IV of the Clublands development. This is exciting to see move forward! Having a developer looking to invest in building 347 owner-occupied single family homes in Antioch is a fantastic endorsement of our village. It’s become a lot less common to see major developments like this anywhere in Chicagoland. This area was first approved for development by the village board back in 2007, but then Neumann Homes went bankrupt and the development stopped. It’s great to see continued growth in our village. In addition to new homes, I’m excited to hear about more businesses looking to locate or expand in our village. Also at our last board meeting, the Village Board approved an economic incentive agreement with Raymond Kia. This will not only help the Raymond Auto Group expand its presence in our community (and sell more cars). This development has also sparked the interest of other businesses to locate within our community. Several have already signed letters of intent to locate to this new development. I can’t wait to share more information when it becomes available. Also at our last Village Board meeting, the village adopted a resolution making Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day a village holiday. In observance of the holiday, all village offices will be closed on Monday, January 15th. The Antioch Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Antioch Junior Women’s Club for a night of laughs in February. The annual Comedy Night and silent auction will be held on Saturday, February 3rd at the Antioch VFW Hall. The event will raise funds for Open Arms Food Pantry, Save-A-Pet, Midwest Veteran’s Closet, AAHAA-Antioch Area Healthcare Accessibility Alliance, A Safe Place, Antioch Junior Woman’s Club, and the Antioch Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are $45 each, or a table for 8 for $320.
